We invite applications for a full-time, on-site permanent appointment at one of three levels in the Financial Engineering Group in the Department of Engineering at Reykjavik University.

The position can range from Assistant Professor to Full Professor, depending on the current qualifications and status of the applicant. 

Long description

We invite applications for a full-time, on-site permanent appointment at one of three levels in the Financial Engineering Group in the Department of Engineering at Reykjavik University. We strive to appoint faculty with the ambition to be academic leaders committed to producing internationally competitive research and highly qualified graduates. Our research is founded on a critical and quantitative approach to studying various areas of financial engineering.

The position can range from Assistant Professor to Full Professor, depending on the current qualifications and status of the applicant. An evaluation will be carried out to determine the rank of the successful applicant.

Duties:

  • The successful applicant will teach approximately three courses per year and is expected to advise MSc and PhD students.
  • The faculty member is expected to develop courses within quantitative finance, with particular emphasis on the application of financial engineering techniques to the quantification and the management of market and corporate risk.
  • The faculty member is expected to develop and obtain funding for research projects and carry them to fruition, successfully mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
  • The faculty member will also be expected to participate in administrative and outreach duties at the Department and University levels.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in Financial Engineering, Mathematical Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A track-record of quality, independent and relevant research.
  • Experience in teaching courses that are relevant to financial engineering is required, and experience in designing and organizing courses would be beneficial.
  • Experience in working in or with the financial services industry is desirable.
  • Interpersonal skills and the capability of working with diverse teams in disparate fields are desired.
  • English fluency is required.

About the Financial Engineering Group

The Financial Engineering Group (FEG) is focused on three pillars: markets and risk management,computational finance, and the mathematics of finance. The group is responsible for 11 courses across the undergraduate and master’s degrees, each course emphasizing these pillars to varying degrees. FEG is housed in the Department of Engineering, which offers a lively and collegial working environment with good facilities and an international faculty.
